American Psycho Lighting and Media Design
Lighting console driven media design using four small business projectors in Qlab to produce visual tones and locations for the 80’s musical insanity that is American Psycho. I approached this show looking at video art from the 80’s, static feeds, and analog qualities that might echo what was once considered the top tier of excess in the late 80’s. The project involved bringing on two additional animators, while a modest lighting design supported the video elements through heightened sidelight for interesting shadows across large white screens.
“What makes Stray Cat’s interpretation special, aside from several successful feats of acting, are the technical components. What the show lacks in substance it makes up for in brilliant projection work. Walls of screens allow the stage to transform from a home to the glimmering streets of Manhattan, office space to the Hamptons to a nightclub. Tremendous ingenuity nearly eliminating the need for set pieces all together.” by Rebecca Rudnyk YabYum Music + Arts
